Rough Cut 5

Filming Plan

After a discussion we found that some shots in our video do not work well and therefore we will refilm these and add more.

Today we received another ABC feedback for our fourth rough cut.

Advert - Logo Research

When designing our advert, we researched some logos for the band which we could use for the design. These are some we tried to work with until we finally decided on one to use which is the top right one which we filled in black.

Advert 1

During our filming sessions, we took several photographs of the protagonist which were possibilities for our digipak and advert designs. The image above is one of the images showing the female actress with a bloody nose, as a result of drug-use. We included the 'The 1975's logo which is used across all their products and creations and is brand identity for them as a band. We also included the name of the song underneath, stating "Milk" in the same colour. After researching similar adverts for bands and artists we discovered that is is conventional for them to feature a review from a trusted company such as a newspaper or music magazine. As The Guardian is a well known brand I included their 'rating' of 5 stars which gives the advert and product a sense of professionalism. This is a very rough cut at the moment, and we plan on changing it to a standard we prefer; we will most likely change the image as it isn't as representative of us as a brand as we'd like. However, the logo and reviews will remain over the image we select.

Test Footage - Liquids

Over the past few days, we have been experimenting with paint, chalk and ink for the fast instrumental parts of our video as we have decide to scrap the scenic idea as we agreed that the shots would look out of place and wouldn't contribute to the videos narrative and therefore would look like a filler. We thought that liquids dropping into a glass of clear water would show the audience the actresses state of mind. The footage we have achieved so far didn't turn out as clear as we hoped. For our next shoot, we are going to use food colouring and try different lighting techniques to achieve a crisp shot.

Rough Cut 3

During todays workshop after college hours, we continued to edit and finalise our music video for 'Milk'. This involved removing and adding clips which we thought fitted well with the pace of the song and the actual storyline/concept we tried to capture. Since a few shots are still needed to be filmed, we instead focused our attention on some of the ending which finalises the concept; this is the female protagonist, Oceana, being filmed as she stages her own 'demise'. She collapses in the bathtub, and drops the necklace which is symbolic for the love she once had with her ex-boyfriend, who texts her during the video.

We have yet to film the scene involving Katy's nana who will act as the grown up version of the female character and acts as a plot twist when it is revealed to the audience that she isn't actually dead. We will do this very soon so we can finalise the plot to a point where the audience understands what has actually happened. Since we filmed at the weekend, we also included these shots throughout the video this includes the protagonist smoking, scenic shots, more lip syncing and close ups and also an insight to the characters demise as she has a nose bleed into a sink.

These are all important to the storyline as we wanted a variety of shots which didn't just feature her using drugs as it can be too inappropriate, repetitive and predictable. We will continue to edit the video into the final version and upload rough cuts and updates to our blog.

Filming Update

At the weekend we filmed more footage for our music video and gathered extra images for the digipak. We mostly filmed the actress lip syncing and filmed some more shots for the beginning of our music video.

Rough Cut 2

This is the second rough cut of our music video. After a group discussion, we have decided to cut out some of the beginning scenes and also film some more clips and experiment with lighting and liquids falling into water to match the pace of the guitar instrumental throughout the video.

Editing update - Cinematic View/Widescreen Addition to Music Video

As we want our video to look as professional as possible, we looked up how to make videos appear widescreen on Final Cut Pro. We used the 'Letterbox' effect to achieve this and set the aspect ratio to 2.35:1

Achieved Footage - Filming Day 2

This video shows some of the footage we achieved during our second video shoot.

Editing Update

During the past week, we have continued to edit our clips together to finalise the entire video. In rough cut one, we did not include the majority of the clips which explain the concept and the idea behind the draft was merely testing the editing and getting to grips with editing clips to fit music.

Currently, we are adding more clips to it whilst changing around certain clips which we are not happy with and will continue to do so whilst updating our blogs and YouTube channel with more rough cuts. The application we are using is Final Cut Pro and we are experimenting with the footage we got on our filming day and deciding which are best to keep whilst scrapping the ones which are slightly unclear, shaky or blurry - this was also the feedback we received from our peers so it is important we listen to what we got in terms of improving to ensure our video is of a standard our target audience would like.

We still have further scenes to film, and we plan to do so at the weekend. We have taken this into consideration and will leave a gap for where we want to place the missing footage to complete our video; for example - we still need to film a sunrise/sunset timelapse which will be placed at the beginning and ending of the video and so we have left a gap of around 3-5 seconds to place these shots in once we have everything we needed.
